Senior Coach and Managing Member
Since April 2008 Jim Mayer has been Managing Member and Senior Coach of DiversiCorp LLC (f/k/a Smallcap Advisory Services until the end of July 2009), a reprise of DiversiCorp, Inc. (1985) that provided management coaching, advising and transactional based financial services in more than 285 cases involving small and midsize companies, banks, trade suppliers, investors and owners that were experiencing rapid changes or decline during the 80′s and 90′s.
Until April 2008 Mayer served as CEO of M-Wave, Inc., a publicly-traded supply chain services and importation company. The requirement was to facilitate a spin-off, merger or acquisition of the business. At the end of calendar 2008, M-Wave spun off its operations to privately-held M-Wave International LLC that is operating and profitable today.
In 2003, he led M-Wave’s earlier restructuring that jettisoned its manufacturing operations. Mayer was successful in eliminating $8M trade and secured debt, reducing 60% of its operating costs and raising $9M in equity, resulting in operating losses dropping from approximately $12M in 2003 to $156K in 2004; a year after joining the company as its Chief Restructuring Officer.
From 1998-2003, Mayer served in the role of Managing Member of Credit Support International LLC, a Dallas-based specialized consulting firm supporting asset-based lending and workout. During that time he handled approximately 35 restructuring, consulting, coaching and private equity due diligence projects.
He served as Director and Co-Managing Partner of SA Credit Support International NV, a Brussels-based cross border joint venture with DiversiCorp, Inc. Mayer played a key in business strategy planning as well as client services encompassing control of European assets for the clients of US banking institutions. From 1994 to 1999, he maintained the firm’s leadership in cross border collateral management supporting asset based financing between the U.S. and Europe.
From 1986 to 1998 Mayer served as President and CEO of DiversiCorp Inc. and then Collateral Risk Management a Texas-based collateral workout, turnaround and management coaching firm serving more than 200 bank lenders and troubled companies. Clients included: bank regulators, state/federally chartered banks, insurance firms, finance companies, industrial creditors, and smaller companies.
Prior to forming DiversiCorp in 1986, Mayer founded Diversified Consulting Associates (DCA), a successful firm specializing in turnaround and crisis management consulting and coaching services. At DCA he handled approximately 15 assignments including advisory, trustee or interim management roles involving diverse industries from “green” grocers to building materials and steel distribution to shoe manufacturing.
During the 80′s and 90′s he contributed content and articles to renowned publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Export Today, International Business, CFO Magazine, and Bankruptcy Law Review among many. As an author and lecturer, Mayer’s contributions to organizations and professionals has been extensive contributing to a strong record of excellence and business expertise as-well Board of Director memberships at public, private, and trade organizations.
During 1994-95 Mayer served as chairman of an SBA small business committee making recommendations on its 7(a) working capital program formerly GreenLine, now known as Capline. Mayer provided extensive pro-bono work to SBA and its then Administrator Erskine Bowles, who later served as White House Chief of Staff during the Clinton Administration and was co-chairman of the president’s Commission on the Deficit and currently president of University of North Carolina.
Mayer’s credentials include a Bachelor of General Studies degree (1977) with concentrations in: Psychology, Economics, and Journalism from Ohio University; Certified Management Consultant (1987) from the Institute of Management Consultants; completion of advanced training and professional educational seminars (between 1986-1993) at Southern Methodist University in bankruptcy law; continuing education seminars on enterprise risk management, advanced credit management, business counseling, international asset finance, micro-cap public finance, and varied legal topics.
He has served on seven boards of directors including the Turnaround Management Association (1990-1992), a trade group, and M-Wave, Inc. a former NASDAQ Capital Markets company (2004-2005).
His personal areas of interest include: decline to growth advisory, coaching and consulting services including business development, financing, operational management, general management, organizational development and strategic planning.
In off hours he enjoys visual and performing arts, history, politics and news. He additionally does selective blogging in professional groups and business social media.
